Tapback
The fourth receipt option.
Retail has offered the same three receipt choices for decades: paper, email, SMS. Tapback adds a fourth — tap your phone at checkout, and the receipt just appears. No app, no email address, no phone number, no QR code, no typing.
Tapback is a working project name, and a fully specified plan — not yet built in code.
Today, at checkout
Every option on offer costs someone something.
Paper
Printed, handed over, usually thrown away before the customer reaches the car.
Means spelling an address out loud at the counter, then digging for it in an inbox later.
SMS
Means handing over a phone number — and the marketing texts that tend to follow it.
The moment
One more button at checkout. This is the whole pitch.
The fourth option should feel as normal and recognizable as tapping to pay.
How it works
Tap. Receipt appears. Saved — before they've left the counter.
- 1Customer taps phoneAt the register, after payment — no app to open first.
- 2Receipt opens instantlyNo email address, no phone number, no QR code, no typing.
- 3Saved to their Receipt VaultAutomatically. The customer leaves with nothing to lose.
Who it's for
Merchants running Shopify POS, first.
Tapback doesn't replace the POS a merchant already runs — it sits as a receipt layer between it and the customer. The plan targets Shopify POS first, with other platforms (Square, Clover, Lightspeed, Toast) mapped for after that.
Want to see the plan, or get early access?
Tapback is designed and specified, not yet built. If you want to talk through it — or be first in line when a pilot opens — we're happy to walk you through it plainly.
